Letter of the Week – Little p OR Paint-fest with Grace
The best thing I could think of for “p” was to paint. Because we LOVE to paint around here.
Shaving Cream Painting in the Bathtub
This project happens A LOT. Grace asks if she can paint in the bathtub every time she’s taking a bath.
The very first time we tried this, I used food coloring. It worked well, but stained a bit. I was able to clean it all up, but then I started using our liquid watercolors. I like this much better. It DOES stain our white grout, but again, I am able to get it off with a little scrubbing.
I’ve wanted to try this project since the holidays, but I just couldn’t work it out with the weather. Then we had a day with an 80% chance of rain. Perfect! Until it DIDN’T RAIN AT ALL. (This is “supposed” to be done in the rain so the paints run, etc.) So we just did our shaving cream painting outside. She still loved it… as you’ll see.
This photo pretty much sums up the point of working with mirrors – she is looking at the paint brush. You could see her trying to figure out which one to grab for – the real one or the reflection.
Explaining to me what needs to be done.
Then showing me.
“Mommy, look at my gloves like Elsa’s!”
And, of course, “regular” watercolor painting.
The intended idea was to use the squeegee to smush around and blend the paint. I showed her what the idea was and she tried it.
Fingers (and feet) worked better.
“Mommy, I use my foot!”
Then she slipped, once, and the foot painting was done.
“I making red circles.”
She thought it was hilarious when she learned that she had paint on her face.
Apparently, my washing it off later was hilarious, as well.
